when a QUERENT (client) seeks a tarot PRACTITIONER (reader) for a reading, often their thoughts are messy. the tarot reader uses the cards to structure their thoughts via the images on the cards, and thus, a strategy/solution is given via the messages from the cards.

Tarot is not fortune telling, it is a form of divination. forms of divination includes i-ching and ‘kau chim’ that is often seen in buddhist temples. the querent ask “specific” questions and tarot cards are used as a tool to give insight to those questions that are usually related to a person or situation.

For tarot, nothing is set in stone and there is the element of #freewill. it is because the images of the cards are a reflection of the querent’s inner struggles/voice/insecurities, when a querent execute the strategies given by the card, one thing leads to another and hence, querent can achieve that specific “goal”.

It is hard for me to know if the reading is “wrong” or the practitioner is a con artist without meeting the reader or getting a reading myself (I don’t want to make assumptions). Tarot is an artform that is a combination of several skills. memorizing the cards alone is not going to make you a ‘great’ tarot reader. one would also need people skills, being a good at verbally illustrating the meanings of the cards plus life experience also plays an important part, maybe, your practitioner was just inexperienced.

I believe in respecting other practitioners in the new age field, however, I would agree that there are con artist and scammers (they exist in every industry) who make a living by giving unethical advice – for example: “Pay me USD500 and I can cure AIDS/HIV”.

With information easily obtainable on the internet, do conduct background research on your “chosen” practitioner. A Tarot practitioner shouldn’t just be all talk and no show. He/she should talk the talk and walk the walk. For example, would you ask for business advice from someone who is running away from loan sharks? or take education advice from someone who do not even have a college diploma or university degree? or even receive parenting advice from someone who abandons their child? 

Many lay people thinks that they need to ‘channel’ their energy by picking the cards in person. energy is universal and for many years, energy practitioners such as Reiki, Qi Gong (气功) and Chakra healers have been conducting remote healing for clients 500, 5,000 and 50,000 miles away. so yes, energy can travel 🙂
