If you know me in person, you would know that I’m writing a PhD thesis on Love and Relationships.

One part of me is a HOPELESS ROMANTIC but the other part of me believe that Love is a scientific concept and (most parts of it) can be measured.

I struggle so much between being a Social Scientist (Sociologist) and a Spiritualist.

Personally, I do not believe in the concept of “Soul Mate” for 2 reasons: 1) Most people do not usually marry their soul mate (you can google up on this) 2) Soul mate comes in many forms – a parent, best friend, sibling, mentor

If you’re Chinese like I am, which I assume you are, I find that the Chinese concept of Peach Blossom Luck 桃花運, makes more practical sense – some months/years you have more peach blossom luck and some months/years not so. From a logical point of view, there’s 7-8 billion people in this world, there’s definitely more than 1 person that is suitable for us 🙂

Sometimes we want to believe in the “Soulmate” concept so much that we stay on in toxic relationships WAY BEYOND its due date. I use to like this quote when I was “younger” but as I became more mature, I realised how toxic it is!

“I’m selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can’t handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don’t deserve me at my best.”

You don’t project your insecurities, negativity and toxic self onto other people and expect them to just take it because it’s simply NOT FAIR. If you need to fix yourself and go for therapy/healing, please do. No partners deserve abuse. Ever.

So, when is it time to leave a relationship?

I have a BIG 3A rule – it’s time to leave when it’s issues regarding

ABUSE (Physical, Mental & Emotional)
ADDICTION (Drugs, Alcohol, Gambling, Porn, etc)
ADULTERY (Cheating)

There are 8 million people out there, of course there IS the one for you. Don’t give up, based on scientific research, dating is a NUMBERS game, the more you date, the better you become and the bigger pool you fish in, the higher you chances.

So don’t worry about your “ship sailing away”. Romantic partners are like buses, there’s always another one 🙂
